NFL Free Agency: Carolina Panthers sign Brian Folkerts to 90-man roster, waive Tyrus Thompson

Folkerts played for the Panthers from 2013-2014.

The Panthers have once again churned the bottom of the roster after signing center Brian Folkerts, according to the team’s Twitter account. Offensive tackle Tyrus Thompson was waived to make room for Folkerts on the 90-man roster.

Folkerts appeared in 26 games for the Panthers from 2013-2014, and two games for the Rams in 2015. He didn’t play in 2016.

There’s no word yet as to why the coaching staff decided to make this move, but I’m sure they have a good reason. It could just be a simple numbers game where they needed another center and had too many offensive tackles. At any rate, this shouldn’t have much of an effect on the final 53-man roster, but we’ll keep you updated if it does.
